Well it depends on what kind of T you want to breed, every species is different.

Do you have a tarantula book ?
Or did you just start the hobby ?

PostSubject: Re: Breeding T's   Breeding T's EmptySat May 23, 2009 7:14 pm

I have never breeded T's, but, I can see it happening in the Future. especially for some of harder to find species that need a little repopulating :-) and before anyone jumps on that statement, I do realize that a lot of T's are simply not available for a variety of reasons, from export restrictions to simply not being available.

The reason for the question was twofold,

1) looking for generally good tactics to keep in mind when the two T's approach each other. should I try to introduce them to each other through a divider glass before I let em get their "hands" on each other? whatever advice can be sharing on this would be appreciated.

2) how does it work when you send out your male to others for a breeding "loan?" What should I look for in a breeder, are there certain preconditions I should state first? basically, what's the norm for people in the T community for breeding?

The page is pretty good, I think it sounds a little complicated.
Back home we just exchanged males for a super low price and you would disscussion about the cocoon and stuff, since not everybody was willing to care for over 500 Slings.

Well we where all in the same city and I think you deal different with local people, also everybody knew everybody.

About breeding, it is realy hard to say what "general" rule to follow, since every T is different, for example T.blondi is more laid back if it comes to breeding (T.blondi is usually a very defensive T when it comes to handling).
Some T's are pretty docile but will become very firce during mating.

Successful mating can take from a couple of minutes up to hours or even days (some T's have to go through a long foreplay).
