| I know you mentioned that if my 3 yr. old male Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula's abdomen's about the size of a grape, then I should likely increase feeding him more. I used to feed my T 4 crickets a week 2 times wkly, but so far this week, I've fed him 3 crickets at night; not all at once though & he grabbed them right away. Should I possibly feed him 5 or even 6 crickets a week to help increase his growth & abdomen size too? I know the main diet food Tarantulas love to eat is crickets. Is it ok to try something something different & offer either mealworms, or a hissing cockroach? Where I go to the pet stores, crickets of all sizes & mealworms are always available & in the Reptiles magazine classifieds I look thru, I can never find cockroaches for sale, only crickets, mealworms, waxworms, etc. And I'm still using the heating lamp light over my T's screen cover, which is a 75 watt red light that I keep on really low throughout the day & at night & I've really noticed that the humidity stays in the lower to sometimes high % range & the temps stay in the lower to high 70's & sometimes around 80-81 degrees too. Should I go out & get a different red light, like a 40 watt bulb, or just stick to doing what I'm doing at keeping the light really low? | |

| Usually you feed your adult tarantula once every 2 weeks. I would only feed the juvis every week. If your T takes the crickets I would'tn worry to much. Most T's have never seen anything other then crickets. Mealworms are usually a bad choice since they burry themselfes in the ground and die there or develop into bugs. Either way you T will have some probs to grab them or could be in danger (molting) when the mealworm transform into a bug. The roaches are a nice idea, but are not necessary. Some T's have trouble to kill the roaches. There exoskeleton is very slipery and the T needs more force to stab the roach with the "teeht" in order to kill and eat. You can boost your crickets with flukes powder or the combination food from flukes for crickets. It is water and food in one. | |
